Clara B. Ramsey

COMMENTS:

1. Texas Death Records Index 1903-1945 shows no "Clara", etc. Upshaw (see UFJ, Vol. VII, page 14-16). Texas Death Records Index 1946-1969 shows a "Clara Louise Upshaw", died 20 Sep 1959 in Harris Co. and a "Clara Upshaw" who died 23 Apr 1963 in Harris Co; we need to write the Harris County library for these two obituaries.

2. Note per Andy Upshaw, April 1999: "Clara was last seen by my older brother living with James Patrick Upshaw family in Miami, Arizona in the early 1950s. She probably died there or in Seattle, Washington, with my Uncle Bill." (Miami, Arizona is in Gila County; Seattle, Washington, is in King County).

1865. (infant) Upshaw Son

1. Spur Cemetery records (per internet file): Baby Upshaw, b-18 Mar 1910, d-25 Mar 1910; owner of the plot named as J.M. Upshaw. (From Andy Upshaw).

2. 1910, 1 April: Obituary in the Texas Spur, issue of 1 April 1910: "Thursday, April 2, 1910, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Upshaw died and the remains were interred Friday in the Spur cemetery. The infant lived only six days and friends extend condolence to the family in their loss."

1866. Oscar Upshaw

1. Spur cemetery records (from internet site): Oscar Upshaw, b-14 Oct 1911, d-29 Jul 1912; owner of the plot was J.M. Upshaw. (contributed by Andy Upshaw).

2. 1912, 2 Aug: Obituary, The Texas Spur, issue of Aug. 2, 1912: "Little Child Dies. Little Oscar, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Upshaw, died Monday morning and the remains were interred Monday evening in the Spur cemetery, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. Knox. The little child had been sick several weeks and during the last two weeks of illness Dr. Grace remained at the home almost continuously, day and night, doing everything possible to medical skill in an effort to relieve the suffering and effect a cure. However, all efforts were unavailing and the little child succumbed to the illness. We extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved parents, and know that what may be is that "Great Beyond" that the very brightest is for such as little Oscar."

1867. Middleton Upshaw

PRIMARY SOURCES:

1. (undated) school enrollment record, Deming Public School, Deming, New Mexico: Middleton Upshaw, born 7 Nov 1916 at Columbus, New Mexico. parent, J.W. Upshaw, carpenter. Latest residence: 1023 W. Hemlock. (this contributed by nephew Andy Upshaw, June 1966).

COMMENTS:

1. Andrew ("Andy") Upshaw, who furnished this information in May 1999, observes that his birthdate of 7 Nov 1916 was about nine months after Pancho Villa invaded Columbus, New Mexico. Andy further mentions that "I still do not know where he died but he is mentioned in the obituary of William A. Upshaw as a survivor living in Seattle at that time (about 1963). Middleton was called "Woodrow" in the obituary and that could be his middle name because he was always referred to as "Uncle Woody", when I was a child."

1868. Catherine Upshaw

PRIMARY SOURCES:

1. 1933, 8 May: School enrollment record, Deming Public School, Deming, New Mexico: Katherine Upshaw, born El Paso, Texas, 29 Nov 1917; parent: W.M. Upshaw, carpenter. Graduated in the class of Pintner, 8 May 1933. Notes: Left school in March 1925, Entered school again Sept. 28, 1925, latest place of residence 1023 hemlock. (this contributed by nephew Andy Upshaw, June 1999).

2. Nephew Andy Upshaw adds this comment: "There is a picture in the photo album that I found and my brother said that it was Catherine with her husband and daughter. The picture was obviously taken in the late 1950s or early 1960s, but again, there was nothing written on it. So, more research is required on her."
