1. I have no proof that Richard Manary was the father of Edward; it is thought by some researchers, including Linda Teichman, that "Ignacious & "Horseshoe Mary" Manary were his parents; more research is needed in Charles City Co, MD.
2. It is uncertain whether the correct spelling of this surname is "Manary" or "Manery"; can someone clarify?

2. The only Confederate military service or pension record found for any children in this family is for Samuel Herring, Coweta Co., although Haston is supposed to have served (need to recheck records).
3. No Herring member of this family is found listed in either Carroll or Heard Co, GA, cemetery volumes.

At first I believed Andrew Wright Torbert was son of William Torbet and Rachel Wright. I still do not have enough proof but other researchers believe he was a son of Samuel Torbert, Jr., and Rachel Wright.
Samuel and Rachel may never have come to Tennessee but three of their children came to Monroe and McMinn Co. in the early 1830s. Their children are: 1. Samuel Cherry (24 Oct 1789 Ga-22 Aug 1855) Thomaston, Upson, Ga.) m. Mary; 2. John (27 Dec 1791 Abbeyville(sic), SC-7 Jan 1882 McM. Co. Tn.) m. Sarah then Elizabeth. 3. Alexander Rider, both are buried Sink Cem., Tellico Plains, Monroe Co, Tn.; Andrew Wright (1801 SC-14 Feb 1871) buried Madisonville City cem., Madisonville, Tn. m ca. 1830 Monroe Co., Tn., or Ga. to Nancy Upshaw (1806 Ga.-1896) the dau. of William(sic) Upshaw and Ann Forkner, and is buried with Andrew; 6. First land records show Andrew Wright Torbert in 1834 at Madisonville Court House. I have not found him in the 1830 census. Their home stood where Lowry's store is or, rather, was. John King was a Presbyterian minister. The children of Rebecca and John King were born in Bedford County, Tennessee.
